Business is also facing the following challenges
Businesses’ greatest cost and biggest issue, is getting the balance right between the demands and expectations of both employee and manager. Formalising HR strategies is critical for successful businesses in the future.
Gloria Jean’s tell the story… At a recent Queensland Franchise Council of Australia breakfast meeting, Andy, well known for his staff management practices shared what works for him:
- Be approachable
- Be very clear from the recruitment stage with what you expect
- Spend time to listen to staff
- Make time to coach the supervisors and team leaders
Bree and Sam, two energetic Gen Y employees from Gloria Jeans, shared their views:
- Managers need to be genuine in their approach to staff.
- Be friendly but not familiar with staff.
- Lead by example – give directions for others to follow.
- Recognising a ‘job well done’ on the spot is more appreciated than a formal reward later.
- Feedback – what do we do?
